The Future of Food in Holistic Wellness

Back To the Basics

The future of food is reverting to the basics.

For a long time, most people viewed health and wellness from a sickness-and-care model, meaning that healthcare practitioners and treatment are only required during illness. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic emphasizing the necessity for immune defenses, most of us have been prompted to reconsider our perspectives on wellness. We have also developed a much stronger awareness of our mental health and how much our physical health and environments influence our moods and behaviors. Wellness is now much more commonly viewed holistically, and people are beginning to understand the importance of preventive healthcare.

Food intake strongly impacts the body, especially the gut microbe. An individual's genetic makeup and gut microbes determine how much food will be converted into micronutrients and how many toxins will remain. Consumption of unhealthy foods such as packaged and processed foods has long been harmful to most of the world and has exacerbated health issues such as IBS and migraines. This, in turn, also negatively affects people's mental health and causes general feelings of unwellness.

The concept of ‘going back to the roots’ has picked up in popularity amongst the younger generations, most notably millennials. This involves embracing traditional and holistic remedies that enhance immunity. For example, Indian households have reportedly been consuming more herbal ingredients related to wellness, such as Tulsi, Ginger, Turmeric, Amla, and many more. Practicing holistic nutrition is based on drinking whole food with unprocessed ingredients and eating with a mindful attitude. Mindful eating should not be an overly enforced regimen. With practice, it will eventually become a habitual behavior.

The Wellness Industry is Drastically Growing

For more information about how a growing prioritization of wellness is impacting our diets, go to TimesOfIndia.IndiaTimes.com:

“Wellness is probably the most significant shift in mindset that the 21st century has brought about. In the post-Covid era, the concept of wellness has gained more ground than possibly ever before with more people now aware and willing to make progressive lifestyle changes in order to live a more balanced and healthy life today, which is why yoga, dietary supplements, organic vegetables and other fitness trends have gained popularity. This has been a trend for quite a while now, but its adoption rate has increased significantly over the last year.

Over the next few decades, wellness will become a standard feature of almost all products and services. Solutions will be built around wellness. Increasingly food and nutrition companies will shift their focus towards delivering products that are conducive to improved health and fitness.

The wellness industry must take immediate notice of the shift in consumer preference and socio-economic trends. We are already witnessing an increasing move towards more personalized products and services that are tailored for individual needs, encapsulating the true meaning of wellness – caring for the mind, body, and soul.”
