Is There a Difference?

Holistic medicine and homeopathy are commonly used interchangeably. However, although they are related, they are also distinctly different modalities.

The word holistic comes from holism, meaning ‘all, whole, entire. The term holistic medicine is somewhat of an umbrella term that applies to various treatments and therapies that treat the patient as an entire person. Instead of directly treating an illness, a holistic practitioner examines the patient’s physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being about the ailment.

On the other hand, homeopathy is a practice of medicine that applies a holistic and natural approach to treatment. As such, it fits within the umbrella of holistic therapies. Homeopathy also looks at the patient as a whole person instead of just examining symptoms by taking a holistic approach. However, homeopathy has a distinctly different policy than other common forms of holistic medicine, such as acupuncture and naturopathic medicine.

Homeopathy treatments are safe, gentle, and natural. It utilizes natural sources and remedies prepared by FDA standards. The treatments are environmentally friendly, cruelty-free, and typically highly affordable and available over the counter at various stores. Homeopathy is highly reliable and risk-free, even for children and animals.

Key Differences

To learn more about the difference between homeopathy and holistic medicine, go to CHWBOnline.com:

“Homeopathy also comes from the Greek and translates to “like disease” – meaning the medicine given is like the disease the person is experiencing. The homeopathic provider will find the remedy whose materia medica (drug picture) is most similar to that of the patient’s disease characteristic. That homeopathy prescription is given to the patient to stimulate healing: likes cures likes.

The difference between homeopathic vs. holistic practices might be that the homeopathic doctor would prepare a remedy in liquid or tablet form, while the holistic provider might also provide their patient with the option of a pharmaceutical drug in addition to alternative treatments, which could also include a homeopathic remedy.

Those remedies might also include:

Nutritional-Botanical Supplement Treatments

Osteopathic Treatments

Cranial Osteopathy

Cardiovascular Health Therapies

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapies”
